National Immunization Awareness Month

August is Immunization Awareness Month

August is National Immunization Month (NIAM). The goal of NIAM is to increase awareness about immunizations across the lifespan, from Infants to the elderly. August is an ideal time to make sure everyone is up-to-date on vaccines before heading back to school and to plan ahead to receive flu vaccine.

This year, each week of NIAM focuses on a different stage of the lifespan:

  1. Remind parents of the important role vaccines play in protecting their child's health and answer their questions about vaccines.
  2. Remind college students to catch up on immunizations before they move into dormitories.
  3. Educate adults, especially older adults and adults with chronic conditions, about vaccines they may need.
  4. Remind everyone the the next flu season is only a few months away.
