Strategic National StockPile (SNS) Program and Closed POD

The STRATEGIC NATIONAL STOCKPILE (SNS) PROGRAM represents the large quantities of medicine and medical supplies needed to protect the residents of Clayton County in the event of a public health emergency (such as terrorist attack, flu outbreak, earthquake, etc) severe enough to cause local supplies to run out. Once federal and local authorities agree that the SNS is needed, medicines will be delivered to our community within 12 hours.

What you should know about the medicines in the SNS.

The SNS program is part of a nationwide preparedness training and education program for state and local health care providers, first responders and governments. The program alerts officials to the important issues they must plan for in order to receive, secure and distribute SNS assets.

Closed POD

A Closed POD is a private location where a predetermined population receives medications, vaccinations, or other medical counter measures from the SNS. This allows for a more rapid dispensing scenario and helps to ensure continuity of an agency. Long term care facilities, businesses, universities, community organizations, and faith based organizations make ideal Closed POD locations.

The implementation of a Closed POD plan helps ensure continuity of your agency's operation as well as helping the local community response by reducing the population being served by the public/Open POD sites. Implementation ensures employees are protected, and therefore able to continue working and/or return to work more quickly. Employees will feel secure in knowing that their organization is willing to take the "extra step" to ensure that they and their families are taken care of during a public health emergency.
